Spending the first four years of my life on a Welsh hill farm and the next fourteen on a duck farm in Norfolk, I was rarely away from the natural world. After many years working in the electricity industry, I retired from full-time employment in 2003 and I have been able to devote much more time to natural history and photography. I worked part-time for the RSPB in my local reserves office for some years before retiring from all employment in 2013. I have also volunteered on a variety of projects in the conservation sector and indeed continue to do so. I also do a lot of volunteer photography for a local charity in Ipswich – Friends of Christchurch Park.
Much of my photography is local and although I now travel further afield in the UK and abroad, it is still photographing wildlife in my local area that gives me the greatest thrill. I prefer to be out on my own so I try to find quiet places and avoid busy times. More than anything, I love observing real nature encounters and I enjoy being the only human watching things unfold.
I enter national and international photography exhibitions and some of my images have been used by the RSPB, Suffolk Ornithology Group, Suffolk Naturalists Society and the British Trust for Ornithology amongst others and have appeared in local and national newspapers, journals, Christmas cards and the 2007-11 Bird Atlas published by the BTO.
